Biomedical Engineering, a graduate program was initiated in the year 2006 with a sanctioned intake of 60 students. Since that time, numerous students have gone on to take positions within academic institutions, the health care field, and in industry. The highly motivated, qualified and experienced faculty and the energetic students work together extensively to build interdisciplinary knowledge in the areas of medicine, molecular and cellular biology, microelectronics and engineering. Recently, the department took a successful lead in the removal of Biology subject for First Year Biomedical Engineering admission. This was a successful effort for the students with broader views. Beyond syllabus activities are conducted for the betterment of employment in academia, government organizations, and research, industry, engineering and management positions. Various technical and non-technical forums at provide an exposure to engineering concepts and technology.
Biomedical engineering aims to improve human health by applying engineering principles. Through a strong course the students are introduced not only to these disciplines but also to laboratory research and instrumentation, the design process, teamwork, technical communication, entrepreneurship, and legal and regulatory issues. It is important for students to have an access to interconnected engineering, medical, and business resources.
