The laboratories of the First Year Engineering allows faculty and students to transcend traditional academic exploration and focus on the basic engineering concepts such as physics, chemistry, mechanics, engineering drawing and workshop. Students and faculty work in collaboration to study the link between the basic sciences and engineering.

Applied Physics

Physics laboratory

Scope

The Physics Laboratory focuses on the usage of different electronics and electrical instruments and application of such instruments in a particular field.

The experiments develop the problem solving ability and familiarize the students of various industrial applications.

Travelling Microscope, Spectrometer, He-Ne Laser, Plane Diffraction Grating, C.R.O., Signal Generator.


Applied Chemistry

Chemistry laboratory

Scope

The Chemistry Laboratory develops the analytical skills of the students and educates them about the preventive measures to be taken which will help them in the industries.

Unique Feature

The experiments focus on the practical knowledge which is essential for industrial applications like PCB, microchips, and soldering.

Demineralization Plant, Colorimeter, Redwood Viscometer, Pensky Marten Flash Point Apparatus, Oven, Heating Mantles.


Engineering Mechanics

Scope

Engineering Mechanics is an extension of physics and mathematics. It provides the "building blocks" of statics, dynamics, strength of materials, and fluid dynamics. It is extensively used in solving mechanics problems through the integrated application of mathematical, scientific, and engineering principles. It is applied in civil engineering, materials science and engineering, mechanical engineering and aeronautical and aerospace engineering.

Unique feature

The instruments used in the mechanics lab are applied in the concept of understanding the effect of forces on the machine components such as screw jack and structures such as bridges.

Simply supported beam, friction plane, screw jack, bell crank lever, compound pendulum.


Engineering Drawing

Scope

Computer Aided Design CAD is extensively used in many applications, including automotive, shipbuilding, and aerospace industries, industrial and architectural design, prosthetics, and many more. It enhances the productivity of the designer, improve the quality of design, improve communications through documentation, and to create a database for manufacturing. Engineering drawing is the language of the engineer to communicate designs and construction in detail to others. Drawings are based on the fundamental principles of projections. Applications are found in constructions, manufacturing and engineering.

Unique Feature

For AUTOCAD specific software is used to design and draw the isometric figures.

Workshop

Scope

The Basic workshop in engineering gives the basic working knowledge of the construction, function, use and application of different working tools, equipment, machines as well as the technique of manufacturing a product from its raw material. To understand the subject- workshop technology and to develop the skill, an engineering student has to practice the workshop processes, starting from simple models to complicated products.

Unique feature

The exposure to soldering, filing, PCB making, plumbing, carpentry and dismantling of computers in the workshop laboratory enhances the technical skills and basic engineering techniques. The basic knowledge and experience in workshop processes also facilitate a sound foundation for further advanced engineering studies.
