“The influence of teachers extends beyond the classroom, well into the future.” This quote was very appropriate for me as the youngest child in my family which comprised many passionate and knowledgeable teachers who made a profound impact on my life. Born in a family of teachers and commissioned officers of the Indian Army, it fostered within me a deep desire to learn and excel. It instilled a thirst for knowledge and a habit of challenging myself to explore. This is where my journey to become a teacher began.

I was fortunate that in the course of my education I came across mentors who inspired me to be active in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities at inter-school and intercollegiate level. After my graduation in Commerce, I took up the LLB course where I took part in Moot Courts, as well as tutorial work that helped me to build the ability to assimilate and analyse facts. Meanwhile, I decided to develop my interest in accounts and finance field by taking up a Master’s course. Destination Vidyalankar Institute of Technology for the MMS course was a unique opportunity to learn different perspectives and develop my multi-faceted profile. In the meantime, I opted for Event Management Diploma where I used to plan, coordinate and organize events for NGOs and media companies. It enhanced my networking in different areas of event management.

After completing postgraduation I joined my alma mater VIT as lecturer teaching graduate level courses in Accounts, Finance and Law, an opportunity that transformed my childhood passion of teaching into a novel career. It gives me immense pride to be associated with the MMS course at VIT that has enabled me to nurture a glorious professional career right from its inception, for the first two years as a student and thereafter as a faculty member. I have taught more than ten courses for graduate and postgraduate students in Commerce, Management and Engineering programmes during my teaching career - Financial Accounting, Financial Management and Labour Laws to name a few. Along with teaching I have been shouldering the responsibilities of academic administration, conducting value added courses for students, website and newsletter development for the Department. It gives me immense pride to be associated with the NAAC accreditation team as Criterion In-charge handling “Governance and Financial Management” at the Institute level.

I started developing research acumen as it was the best way to excel at teaching. I registered for Ph.D. and recently submitted my doctoral thesis that investigates the capital structure of selected Indian corporates across fifteen industries. I have attended various workshops and seminars in teaching and research, some notable ones being “Excellence in Teaching – Beyond the Basics” by the University of Illinois, “Train the Trainer Program for Harvard Case Method of Teaching” conducted by Case Research Society of India, “Conducting and Crafting High Quality Research” conducted by IIM – Ahmedabad and S.K. Somaiya Institute.

Taking time away from work, I’m interested in classical music and light music. I’m also an avid reader of articles, books and novels in English, Marathi and Sanskrit languages, especially when their learnings connect with Management lessons.
