The ‘stars’ have literally descended on Vidyalankar Institute of Technology in recent times. The Institute has had the honor of hosting and interacting with many eminent visitors, a fact which served to add great co-curricular and extra-curricular value to the teaching-learning process. The students and staff of Vidyalankar were enthralled by star visitors such as:

The IIG (Indian Institute of Geomagnetism) lecture series, started with talk by senior scientist Dr. S. Gurubaran. The topic of his talks were “Developing efficient algorithm for analysis of ‘air-glow Images” and “Sensor development for electric field measurements in the atmosphere”.

IIG takes observation of the “air-glow images”. These images originate from Mesosphgeric/ lower ionospheric heights of 80-100 km. IIG has sensitive instruments based on CCD cameras to output 1024X 1024 images. Efficient mathematical tools need to be developed for smooth capturing of the images and interpretation of atmospheric parameters like presence of specific gases and their densities from various atmospheric layers.Electric field measurements in the atmosphere is done by placing two sensors at a known distance. These measurements are critical to estimate the static charge accumulations on the clouds and other atmospheric pollutants. The probability of lightning strike can also be predicted with this measurement. These measurements are done by flying a large balloon which holds sensor at the required distance. In short, the resolution enhancement will lead to the miniaturization of balloon!

IIG (Indian Institute of Geomagnetism) Lecture series follwed by scientist Dr. S. Sripathi. The Topic of his talk was “Development of data processing algorithms for Ionosonde”.

IIG uses an Ionospheric sounding system called CADI. This system transmits signals in 1to 20 MHz band and receives echoes from the ionosphere. The system provides the observational data in form of ‘Ionograms’ and the ‘Doppler drifts’.

The researchers are expected to develop algorithms for estimation of atmospheric and geomagnetic phenomenon using the raw data offered by CADI.

IIG (Indian Institute of Geomagnetism) Lecture series third scientist Dr. S. Tulasiram. The topic of his talk was “Development of advanced machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques for the reliable forecasting of space weather.

He uses CADI ACandian Advanced Digital Iionosonde located at EGRL, Tirunelveli and KSK GRL, Allahabad for his research work.  Estimation of various geophysical parameters like Dst, EEJ, TEC from the data bases given by the IIG is to be calculated. The work involves implementation of algorithms like Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm and Kalman Filters etc.”

The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it”

Vidyalankar Institute of Technology has been committed to making a positive impact through outstanding environmental sustainability performance. And in order to ignite a sense of moral responsibility in the minds of the students, the Student Council of VIT had organized a Guest Lecture by Dr. Sharad P. Kale, Scientist at BARC and a proud bearer of the Padmashri award.

Dr. Kale entranced the crowd with his childhood memories. He came, teeming with metaphors and witty remarks which left everyone amused. His poems about nature conservation were both great and inspiring. Dr. Kale encouraged the group to make a few vows against utilizing non-biodegradable items and planting at least 3 plants. The event ended at 6:35 pm with a vote of thanks expressed by Aanshuk Kitawat. It was a motivational and enriching experience for everyone present.

“A different language is a different vision of life”

The Literary Council of Vidyalankar Institute of Technology celebrated Hindi Divas by an event ” हिंदी है हम ” on 24th September 2019.

The honorable guest for the evening was Bollywood’s famous actor and Padmashri Awardee, Shri. Manoj Joshi, who shared his knowledge of the Hindi language and also encouraged the audience to be proud of the language as well as to use it more often. This event was complemented by spirited performances by the students of VIT, which included dance, drama, poetry and a musical opening.

The guest has been interviewed and documented on YouTube channel ‘VIT Student Council’ as series called ‘Varta’.
