Vision
The Vision of the VIT Institute Innovation Council and Entrepreneurship Cell is to work towards the development of an entrepreneurial ecosystem by enabling generation of IPR, interaction between students and- faculty members, working professionals, aspiring and existing entrepreneurs, mentors, angel investors, venture capital firms and corporates, through initiatives like projects, workshops, interactive sessions, competitions, conferences etc.
The responsibilities of IIC members
- To organize various training programs, technical competitions and business competitions for student and faculty members.
- To help student and faculty members for commercialising their projects.
- To get start-ups funding.
- To provide infrastructural facilities (office / labs etc.) for developing entrepreneurs.
- To tie up with other Entrepreneur Training Institutes.
- To collaborate with other incubation centres of state, national and international level.
- To provide a single window solution for setting up start-up.
Product Development @ VIT
At Vidyalankar Institute of Technology (VIT), Mumbai, innovation is not viewed as a standalone activity but as an integral part of the teaching-learning ecosystem. Guided by the philosophy of "Learning by Building", VIT encourages students to transform classroom knowledge into practical solutions that solve real-world problems. Through project-based learning, design thinking, multidisciplinary collaboration, industry partnerships, and a vibrant entrepreneurship ecosystem, students are inspired to become innovators, product developers, researchers, and future entrepreneurs.
VIT has established an environment that nurtures creativity from the first year by providing access to laboratories, maker spaces, faculty mentorship, innovation challenges, hackathons, and incubation support. Students are encouraged to identify societal and industrial challenges, develop prototypes, validate their ideas, protect intellectual property, and transform innovative concepts into impactful products and startups. This ecosystem aligns with the Institute Innovation Council's vision of promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, and commercialization of student projects.
1. VIDYAJYOTI – Student Satellite Project
- VIDYAJYOTI is one of VIT's flagship multidisciplinary initiatives in which students are designing and developing a student satellite along with its ground station. The project provides hands-on exposure to satellite communication, embedded systems, electronics, RF engineering, software development, and aerospace technologies while promoting teamwork across engineering disciplines.

2. Viking Chess
- Viking Chess is an innovative student-developed strategy board game that reimagines a traditional game through modern product design. The project includes gameplay innovation, intellectual property protection through copyright, and an AI-enabled digital version using intelligent search algorithms, demonstrating the integration of gaming, artificial intelligence, and product innovation.

3. VCalculator
- VCalculator is an AI-powered mathematics learning platform developed to make mathematics more conceptual and interactive. Unlike conventional calculators, it provides step-by-step explanations, multiple solution approaches, and personalized learning support, enabling students to understand concepts rather than simply obtaining answers.

4. DrawCheck
- DrawCheck is an AI-powered Engineering Graphics platform that automatically evaluates engineering drawings, provides instant feedback, generates quizzes and assignments, and supports faculty through automated assessment. The platform enhances both teaching effectiveness and student learning by bringing intelligent automation into engineering education.

Glimpses of Innovative Projects @ VIT
Students experimenting with path following robot in the digital innovation lounge.
This amphibious BOT was developed in house and can travel on all terrains and on water.
A software which maintains upwards of 1800 questions and delivers to students, on demand, questions sorted by subject and difficulty level.
It is the Multi-Fora Multi-Threaded Campus Community Web Portal and Platform and is a single point of contact for all related to the institute activities.
The Inhouse developed Wi-fi based National anthem played in an automated manner, once a day at the campus, is a reminder to all that we are here to serve the nation.
For students -a repository of all Academic Resources of the Instiute arranged hierarchically, academic year-wise, engineering branch-wise, semester-wise for each subject.
A fingerprint based attendance system, designed to automate the attendance process and generate customised attendance reports.
Developed in-house, used in the institute to streamline and manage all the administrative and academic processes of the institute.
An app conceptualised and designed for communicating events and notices to all the students and staff in Vidyalankar Institute of Technology.
A bicycle that can be pedalled or used as bike; chargeable by 3 modes- foldable solar panels, electric point or dynamo.
An innovative 4 seater Autonomous Solar Powered Electric Vehicle. It operates in person driven and Autonomous (GPS based mode). Can be charged through solar panel or from an electric point.
An innovative network printing facility in which students and faculty can give a print, paper punch command from campus or anywhere in the world.

Dr. Dhananjay Patel - President IIC
An experienced professional with a demonstrated history of working in the research domain. My area of interest is Electronics and communication, Optical communication, Radio over Fiber, Passive optical networks, generation and transmission of MMW signals and Optical modulators.
Dr. Sushopti Gawade - Vice President IIC:
Ph.D. ( Computer Engineering ) with research area Usability Engineering in Agriculture Domain. I had completed BE (Computer Science and Engineering ), ME(Computer Science and Engineering) from Walchand College of Engineering Sangli , I am working as faculty of Computer Engineering since 1997.
Prof. Suvarna Udgire - IIC Member
A dedicated Biomedical Engineering professional with a strong educational background and extensive experience. My journey in academia and the corporate world has provided me with a diverse skill set and a deep understanding of the intersection between engineering and healthcare.
Prof. Akshata Bhat - IIC Member
I completed my Graduation and Post-Graduation in Electronics Engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University and passed out with Best Student and Best Performer- Academics awards from my college.
External Consultant- Dr Anil Mehta
Dr Anil Mehta is an innovation and entrepreneurship consultant. He is a member of Rapid SOS, Illinois University, Carbondale, Hawaii. He has worked in innovation lab at Chicago Univ, USA. He has numerous start ups to his credit and is passionate about kindling innovation and entrepreneurship in India He conducts innovation workshops for VIT students. He is also heading Vidyalankar’s innovation initiative :-
