Department Strength

The excellent quality of technical educations imparted by the EXTC Department is endorsed by accreditation given by competent authorities like “National Board of Accreditation” (NBA), “National Assessment and Accreditation Council” (NAAC) and University of Mumbai.

Department has a pool of faculty with doctorate (Ph.D.) and master degree (M.E. or M.Tech.) from very eminent institutes like IIT, NIT, VJTI and highly reputed regional engineering institutes.

The alumni or the students graduated from the EXTC Department holds key positions in the government sectors and various industries across the India and abroad. Indian Navy, ISRO, Works application, TCS and Infosys are some of the recruiters of our students. Many alumni are the successful entrepreneurs with their own start-ups. The Department has maintained excellent alumni connect and outreach with every graduated student. Competent and qualified faculty of EXTC Department shapes the students of the Department for their prosperous future.

About the Faculty

Department has quality teachers. Some of the faculty members have patents to their credit. Many faculty members are involved in the designing and revising of the technical syllabus being a part of Board of Studies (Syllabus Committee) of the University of Mumbai. Faculty members use modern digital teaching aids for efficient delivery of knowledge. Our faculty members share their knowledge and experience with the students in the wide range of domains like “Embedded Systems and Internet of Things (IoT)”, “Smart Antennas”, “VLSI”, “Optical Communication”, “Database Management System (DBMS)”, “Big Data” and “Wireless Communication”.

Apart from teaching, faculty members are also involved in quality research and consultancy-based projects. Their project and research findings are published in various reputed journals and presented in conferences with publications in IEEE, Springer, Wiley Interscience and Elsevier. Many faculty members have received grants from University of Mumbai for undertaking “Minor Research Proposal”. Some of the faculty members also have patents to their credit.

I agree with the quote by Thomas Jefferson, “Power is gained by sharing knowledge”. I have spent the past 18 years in academics and teaching various graduate and undergraduate courses. Teaching has always given me joy as it enlightens young minds. I followed the philosophy of A.P.J. Kalam, “A good teacher, with meticulous planning, prepares himself for teaching” and have always been a good learner throughout. 

I wanted to join teaching, but I feel that to become a good teacher practical knowledge is a very important parameter, so I started working in the industry after my graduation. After 7 years of working in the industry, I enrolled and completed my master’s program in Electrical Engineering from VJTI, Matunga, India as I wanted to become a professor.

After completing my master’s degree, in 2004 I started my career as a teacher. Being inclined to research-oriented topics, I developed an interest in Image processing and enrolled for PhD at CSRE in 2007 and completed it in 2013. 

My research area is Remote Sensing, Image Processing and Machine Learning. In the last 18 years, I have worked on various projects related to Digital Image and Microwave Image Processing in which I have used Machine Learning algorithms as a tool. 

During these 18 years along with teaching, I have handled various responsibilities like Head of the Department, Institute Coordinator (NBA), Chairperson of R and D Cell, Chairperson of examination at the University of Mumbai, Chairperson of BOS (Electronics and Computer Engineering) at Goa University and Member of Syllabus committee at Goa and Mumbai University. 

I have organized more than fifty STTPs, Workshops, FDPs, Conferences, Symposiums, and Webinars at national and international levels. I have worked as a resource person for various expert talks, FDPs, STTPs, IEEE Skill and Knowledge Enhancement Program (SKEP) and Conferences at national and international levels. 

I am a senior member of IEEE and an executive committee member of the IEEE Bombay Section. Currently working as a Chair of the Technical and Professional Activity Committee at IEEE Bombay Section. 

I have published 70 papers in reputed international conferences and journals. The total number of citations is 292. Out of these 70 papers, 30 are indexed in Scopus and 27 in Web of Science.

The Publication of original research work in the form of books, monographs, articles & research papers demonstrate the projects and innovations by the institute. The research papers of Department faculty members and students, both master’s and undergraduate’s have received numerous awards including best paper, best paper presentation, best poster etc. in various international conferences by springer, IEEE etc.

Technical Enhancement

The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) is India’s leading recognized professional society devoted to the advancement of Science, Technology, Electronics, Telecommunication, and Information Technology. We form the Student Chapters of Electronics and Telecommunication Department in conjunction with the Electronics and Telecommunication Students’ Association (ETSA). Both the committees try giving beyond classroom knowledge to students by providing hands-on experience on various software and hardware thus making them ready for the real-world challenges. We try motivating students by giving them a platform to get familiar with the concepts apart from the curriculum so that they can adapt reasoning and critical thinking to solve technical problems efficiently.

Student Projects

Department of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering is committed to impart technical Knowledge and continuous mentoring to help students excel in the Project work. Our Department believes that the key parameters to make a real time project successful are, ‘Literature Survey/Analysis’, ’Problem statement generation’, ’Expertise on hardware and software tools’ and ‘Designing a novel methodology’ during implementation phase. The Department offers good laboratory facilities to train students in the area of simulation, design and testing.

The Department lays great emphasis to carry out research-based projects in the subjects of VLSI, RF and Microwave Engineering, Antenna Designing, Microcontroller and Microprocessor’s, Analog and Digital Communication. The Department collaborates with industries, external agencies, government, and non-government organisations to expose students to higher levels of problem solving through project activities. Every year students are also encouraged to do projects in collaboration with research organizations like IIT Bombay, BARC and TIFR as well as industries like L&T, TCS, to name a few.

INTERNSHIPS

Our economy is changing on constant basis, and with it, the talents and skills required to be a part of that growth cycle are also changing. This is a big reason behind the growth of applied learning and internship opportunities becoming a key part of the college experience for all students. Having an internship gives student hands-on experience in the career field he wants to pursue.

Department provides In-House as well as out-house Internships to Students in variety of domains, that can provide solutions to the real-life problems. In inhouse internships, the problems faced by society and industry are identified by professors in the Department, based on which tasks are assigned to students. Some of the tasks performed by students in their in-house internships are Designing micro-strip antennas, designing and implementing industrial circuits using op-amps, Designing and implementation of various trainer kits, Design virtual experimentation using Simulink in MATLAB, on successful completion a certificate is provided to the students by the Department.

Placement Cell in VIT plays a vital role in creating the eminent placement record for the institute. Placement drives are golden opportunities that every student eagerly waits for. Placements give students the opportunity to gain skills specific to their subject or industry of choice as well as the employability skills required for real-life work.

There are many reputed companies coming to the campus such as General Electric, Atos India, TCS, L&T Infotech, GradeMe, Neosoft Technologies, Bristlecone, Quality Kiosk, Amazon, Reliance, Think and Learn, UGAM Solutions and the pay structures are quite good at the start of their career. STUDENT ACTIVITIES

The main objective of the Co-curricular and extra-curricular activities to give platform to the students to develop and showcase their talent in various areas such as sports, cultural, technical, and literature. The EXTC Department of Vidyalankar Institute of Technology encourages students to actively participate in various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities as of their interest as well as for their development.

EXTC Department students participate in all activities organized by student’s council. Sports council organizes intra collegiate and inter collegiate sports events as V-Emperor and Sportsmania respectively. Mr. Omkar Desai has achieved a patent for 3D video processing using MATLAB with hologram technique.

Alumni are a resource to the institution, and their efforts and participation can significantly enhance the reputation of the institution both nationally and internationally. Mr. Awab Habib Fakih is one such alumni of our Department who bagged several national and international awards like Outstanding Startup of the Year Award 2018 by Indo Global Chamber of Commerce Industries at Vivanta by TAJ Goa, Best Startup Idea 2018, Best use of Technology Award 2019, World Record in STEM and Robotics Education 2019 Under Golden Books of World Record 2019 and Top 5 Startup in Maharashtra Awarded by MATPO, Maharashtra 2019. Ms. Nupur Kanoi is honored and awarded as Juniper Networks Ambassador Fan of the Month. One of our alumni, Mr. Omkar Desai has made remarkable contributions in the research field that has credited one patent titled 3D Video Processing Using Matlab with Hologram Techniques.

The Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering have been exploring all the possibilities for research and development, be it the field of Mobile cellular communication, Wireless communication, IoT, Satellite communication, Telecommunication Network management, optical systems, RF & Microwave, VLSI and signal processing.
